The preview of SharePoint Server Subscription Edition has been released lately. Besides the new licensing model it introduces a bunch of new features concerning update procedures and security and much more.
The new upgrade path is worth a bit of special attention as it allows the direct upgrade from SharePoint 2016 and SharePoint 2019 to SPSE. For upgrading from SharePoint versions earlier than SharePoint Server 2016 it is still required to upgrade first to SP2016 or SP2019 before upgrading to SPSE.
The trial product keys are delivered in the Install Instructions section of the below provided download link. Be aware that the trial period ends after 180 days. It is possible to convert a trial environment to a licensed environment anytime by entering the final product key in Central Administration.
